Do you understand? 2.0
Screens and projections
2020
On February the 6th, doctor Li Wenliang died of corona-virus. He was one of the 8 “whistle-blowers” of the virus outbreak, who were taken into custody for “spreading rumors”. After his tragic (and dramatic) death, the documentation of his “conversation” with the police was exposed, featuring the questions, “Can you do it?””Do you understand?”, the first as requirements and the second as threats. The artist took the two questions, which caused a huge resonance on Chinese social media, using them as material to create a confrontational experience and critique the power controlled by the authority.
This particular version was made by the artist during his social distancing time, by utiliizng all the screens he can get his hands on in his daily conduct.
